RANS Bikes

RANS Bikes is located in Hays, Kansas, and has been creating fascinating machines since 1974. From bikes to aircraft to hang-gliders to land-yachts, they've done it all.

Long Wheel Base -
The term "long wheel base" refers to the distance between the front and rear wheels. Long Wheel Base recumbents (or LWBs) tend to have a crankset closer to where it would be on a Crank Forward bike, but with a much more reclined seating position. The rider can lean back on the backrest, taking all the weight off of the handlebars and arms. To see more of RANS LWB models, click here.

Short Wheel Base -
The term "short wheel base", again, refers to the distance between the front and rear wheels. Short Wheel Base recumbents (or SWBs) have their crankset closer to the handlebars, often over the front wheel. The shorter distance between wheels allows for a tighter turning radius than a LWB has.
